They have become too big to regulate!
To save children from the oppression of too much tuition burden!
China beats the world education market!
More students population!
More resources, aggressive government’s education policies!
President Xi’s Thought is now in the curriculum!
Every year this time schools and colleges reopen not just in India but all over the world.
The US and UK education sector to reopens this time. If you are connected with the education field in any way you must be only too familiar with the scenes in the banks, seeking education loans or getting visas for foreign education travel or somehow with travel agencies to book tickets or in some other ways. Getting foreign education visas. All these encounters or experiences make for a nightmare of sorts!
Also this year. The number of foreign students heading to the US and UK universities is getting bigger!
Foreign education. Is becoming very dearer. Also in the UK there are two types of education fees. One fee, very stiff, almost ten times more for the foreign students, the fees for the home students almost very small!
In the US there is the same pressure for university places, the uS education scene is also becoming difficult with the education loan burden.
New HRD Minister
And we have now a new education (HRD) minister Mr.Devendra Pradhan. We welcome him and wish him all success in the new assignment. Now, this year with the menacing Corona Virus dogging us all the way. We are not sure how this academic year would play out.
There are a number of issues with our own education sector. The school’s education. With its huge numbers and with all the challenges, the numbers seeking entry in the schools and the colleges are so huge that with so many accumulated numbers this year is really very special with the so-called cut-off marks, to take the Delhi university as a test case the cuts off marks in the elite St Stephan’s colleges, it looks rather ridiculous that we have 99.5 percent for admission into the economics course, the same sort of unbelievable 90 and off percentages in other humanities courses as well.
Does this situation not make us squirm or some other gestures at our own rather inexcusable enviable situation.
Can we really afford to educate our youngsters with so little physical space on our education campuses?
We have to do many radical changes in our education policy and planning simply to make this difficult transition possible.
The other thought also runs counter this lack of education places. As per the latest reports. There are so many vacancies in our higher education sphere. It is reported, the facts are somewhat nearer to what we remember to report. A number of Central universities directly
Under the HRD ministry, the Central universities. Are lying vacant with no vIce chancellors and also teaching faculty. As many as 1,700 posts are lying vacant in the universities.40 percent of the university teaching posts are vacant. Not being able to be filled. In States like TN, supposed to be an advanced state in education spread, the new and old and the newly named and yet with no other physical infrastructure whatever, the named and discarded Jayalalitha university is dumped, the are similar stories other States, the higher education standards are deplorable and there is no way to decipher the nuances of the so-called New Education Policy(NEP).
Let us leave these issues, though unhappily at this point. Let us come to the very structure of the Indian education system. As for the fundamental weakness of the Indian education system, it is both historical as well as the political and political parties ideological one.
Since independence, from 1947 to this day, we are sorry to say sow Neve had fully evolved. Thought on how the Indian education system has changed. From a colonial regime to an independent nation.
Media, intellectual debate, and lack of any innovation!
Unfortunately, while there is much progression in another sector, the education sector hasn’t changed much in terms of innovations in terms of new education experiments. The new universities, especially, the Central universities. Are all on the same old patterns and there are hardly any innovations.
The latest new innovation comes from the Delhi government in establishing a new sports university. The Delhi education minister, namely Mr. Manish Sisodia must be congratulated to establish the Sports university.
Rightly, the education minister has said that sports is vital. Education. Playing is a great educational experience. Ah, why this thought didn’t strike the minds of thinkers and educators.
There is very much fear and hesitance and even a sense of inferiority complex in the intellectuals and career educators in India. The media also is guilty of neglect and laziness. The British media, especially the quality media and academic community give much thought and space in the coverage of education innovations.
We now learn from the latest report in the London Financial Times, often frequently, on the developments in Chinese education and how the XI’s leadership is trying to tighten. The party’s hold on education.
The private tuition industry in Chiana is also following or the other way round, in how the commercial and corporate. Sector in taking up the private after the school tuition industry is becoming ruthlessly exploitative and many tuition businessmen have. Become monopolists and billionaires.
While the Chinese President calls this development in education a “Chronic disease” he attempts to reform education by imposing his “thoughts” into the school curriculum.
Xi’s predecessors, Deng, Jiang, and Hu Jinto allowed a sort of mild liberalization, XI’s idea of education seems anti-progressive and even anti-democratic. Even in the USA, there is notch new thinking in education.
Ironically, it is now the Indian-born professors who teach the Harvard Business School to produce MBAs, while in India the very same Indian-born professors. Are now teaching in many US universities!
It is ironic how do you have the credibility to teach in the USA and while you are not able to teach the very same high-quality academic courses. The Indian establishment must give some thought to this contradiction. The media must give more in-depth reports on the lack of new ideas and innovations in establishing path-breaking new ideas in education.
After all, what is education about?
It is basically to give people certain intellectual capabilities, right?
This is possible only when we realize that freedom of the individual is giving every citizen a sense of dignity that would empower the individuals. To give out their basic inherent inner strength.
We read recently that in Croatia, a very small. In a central European country where everything is deficient, a young Croatian electronics engineer has produced a small electric car. That exceeds the fastest cars we read about from Italy and other older countries.
The Croatian young man, we want to point out, demonstrates that the small countries and backward economies too can do things and this is a vindication of the people’s capabilities.
And of course for a country like India, we have to encourage States to go for new education innovations. Unfortunately, we haven’t realized that after all our legacy of democracy, secularism and even social and individual fulfillment in such an environment is our great gift and inheritance. This is the ultimate goal of our legacy, our freedom struggle in a nonviolent way.
There is unfortunately much moral cowardice and that is one reason that our education doesn’t show any resilience. The Chinese students going abroad for education highly outnumber the. Indian students and there is much merit in the Chinese education even as it is today.
The Chinese private schools, some of the small numbers have affiliations with the best British schools with many brand names like Harrow, Dulwich, Charter House and some others which teach the Chinese students. A-Level curriculum and use British textbooks and other material.
Many years ago, we at this very medium, advocated converting the Indian Public Schools Conference(whether this organization is still in existence?)into real British type high-class Public Schools with the enhanced curriculum?
Now, there are very expensive private schools and universities, charging exorbitant fees. Society is changing fasters, caste politics is wreaking vengeance
E need some commitment. The HRD needs to work hard and reach out to the really talented and committed. There are really challenges in reforming our education system.
