The great strength of Indian democracy is that it is quite alive and kicking, so to say.
The media, print media at any rate is very bold and forthcoming. Times of Indian should be congratulated. Where angels fear to tread, TOI dares and reaches out and exposes the scams and scandals. That is a relief. For the common man.
Why industry leaders like Ratan Tata don’t respond?
The names are all very big. There are names, for instance, Ratan Tata, Mukesh Ambani, and Jindal Steel, Birla and Anil Agarwal and many others.
Some 100 private companies benefited. If the CAG leaked report is to be believed. The report is now in the public domain. So, everyone can read it and form their own judgment.
The point here is that the report is first reported in the Times of India. Not in other major dailies, not even in the business and economic dailies. Not on the day   we read it. But the point is that the, matter is very serious. It, the report comes soon after the earlier CAG report on 2-G scam and what it led to.
So, it must be in the interest of everybody, including the industry captains mentioned and whose companies are all mentioned and also the PSUs, 10 of them, in terms of the gained mentioned in the report, for the private sector companies too the gains are so huge, from Rs.33, 060 crores, Strategic Energy Tech System, a Tata Sasol Joint Venture to Jindal Steel and Power to another 10 big shots are named in the report as published by the TOI.
What is really disturbing to the public conscience is, first, the very nature of the allegations. The country is really tired of such huge allegations of wrong-doing by the Indian corporate. Luckily, here, there are the PSUs as well. That makes the role of the government much more directly relevant. Who was or is the minister at the relevant time and what the present incumbent minister (who is he or she?) is. So, there must be an instant response from the government to get some solace, if not some sense of the issue.
Let us hope there is an immediate response. The PMO again comes into the focus. It is really unfair if the PMO doesn’t respond and helps the stabilize the situation before the issue gets out of control.
After the election results from the five state Assembly elections, one hopes the Central government becomes a bit more alive to the dangers of some sudden collapse. If that is a stronger word, before the situation goes out of the hands of the UPA’s chief ally, the Congress. Any other ally, big or small, is today very unstable, the instability of the minds of these smaller allies are much more worrying than the others, Opposition parties, big and small are concerned.
The most senior-most leader of an important ally is perhaps the most irresponsible brinksmanship villain, you know?
Yes, also the other most important ally of the Congress, this time a firebrand lady, is also the most irresponsible. The other ally, from the Western state, the most rich and most powerful and much to suffer the risk if the UPA collapses is also the most unreliable and also the most cunning.
With such allies, as long-term friends and confidantes, we needn’t teach Sonia Gandhi, the UPA chairperson any lessons in political wisdom.
Or, is political wisdom learnt at any time?
May be or may not. We can’t learn any lesson or d raw any lesson from the greats of our freedom struggle. Gandhi and Nehru have not much use today.
So too Indira Gandhi can’t teach anything at the present moment of our political history.
One is not sure what stand the PM has on the new bombshell, the CAG report on coal block not auctioning.
From the way the PM had conducted himself, one has to fear for the new scams and if at all the come. The Central government isn’t sure to collapse under the weight of its own follies, it doesn’t need much wisdom to realise this.
But who knows?
History is full of blind men and women too. When women become enraged, by jealousy or by suspicion of wrong-done, then hell knows no limits!
So, we expect the Indian industry captains take this rare opportunity to play their parts.
For one, Navin Jindal, the young entrepreneur and an MP, also considered as a role model for other young MPs, has spoken out. His repose if in brief response to the newspaper’s query and it is not enough.
Yes, he seems to be justifying the government doing but as an young and educated and also elected MP he owes to the country much more than a mere response.
He must speak out and say that after all the Indian industry captains, young and old are also worthy citizens like other citizens, rich or poor and as a responsible big corporate head he must reassure the public that the government and the private industry, no less the PSUS could join with the government and sort out the issues in a transparent manner and the greatest good for the greatest number is reached through a re-examination of the coal block allocations.
Such an explanation and a stand by others like Ratan Tata would really reassure even the government itself.
Ratan Tata’s day in the sun, so to say, is here and now!
He has all the qualifications to take a public stand and lead the rest of the crowd in this time of great national task.
As for others, big or very big and very influential, we all know their names and we all also know their behind the scene a activates and we needn’t name them here and the country knows their dubious corporate ethics.
Let us leave them out. They might be exposed one day.

We all know why the Congress was beaten so badly in UP.
Let us now hope that the latest CAG expose, if it is really an expose at all, is much ado about nothing. That would be a great national service. And a great relief. There is too much fatigue in the polity.
